Margaret Eilene Gifford, 92, passed away Aug. 25, 2015, at Cedar Lake Village, Olathe, Kan. Visitation at 10 a.m. with service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan., (913) 856-7111. Burial at Edgerton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Lake Village "Memory Unit." Condolences may be left at Margaret was born June 17, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., to Edwin Percy and Edith Jane (Steele) Allen. She grew up in many Kansas towns as her father worked for Phillips Petroleum on pipelines. Margaret's family moved to Edgerton where she graduated from high school. After graduation she attended secretarial school. During WWII she worked at the Sunflower Ordinance in De Soto. She married Eugene Edwin Gifford on July 9, 1945, in Kansas City, Kan. They moved to Olathe in 1965. Margaret was the personal secretary for Johnson County Sheriff Fred Allenbrand for 19 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Margaret loved dancing, visiting with and attending her grandchildren's activities and traveled all over the United States with favorite friends, the Fosters. She was an avid KU basketball fan. Margaret will be dearly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sarah Harbour Shultz. Margaret is survived by Gene, her loving husband of 70 years; son, Michael and wife Pamela Gifford, Olathe; daughter, Jeanne and husband Richard Staker, Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Irene Davis, Kimberling City, Mo., and Evelyn Ellsworth, Olathe; six grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
