Luke A. Pell, 95, of DeSoto, Kan., passed away December 19, 2013. Luke was born July 21, 1918, in Glasgow, WV. He was the seventh of 11 children born to James and Mary Pell and the last surviving member of his family. In August 1941, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Perkins in Washington, DC. He served in the Army Air Corps as a radio repairman during World War II and was assigned to duty in the Pacific theater. In 1948, Luke, Betty and their two older children moved from Ohio to DeSoto. Luke worked as a journeyman electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) until his retirement at age 60. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. Luke is survived by his five children, Anne Pell Moscrip, Durham, NC, Harriet Pell, Denver, Colo., Peggy Pell, Mission, Kan., John Pell, Fredericksburg, Va., and Cathy Pell Lapp, Phelps, Wis., 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Luke was preceded in death by son, Richard (1972), granddaughter, Kari Kennaly (1978), wife, Betty (2003) and his grandson, Philip Pell (2011). A remembrance celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the VFW in DeSoto.
