SISTER MARY PATRICIA WALSH
The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Mary Patricia Walsh, 92, who died Friday, September 27, 2013, at Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, Kan. Mary Agnes Walsh was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Herington, Kan., one of two children of Edmund Thomas and Nora Frances Parkin Walsh. She graduated from St. Rose of Lima Grade School and Ward High School, both in Kansas City, Kan. She entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on Dec. 8, 1941, and, as Sister Mary Patricia, made her profession of vows on June 24, 1943. From 1943-1985, Sister taught in parochial schools in KS, MO, CO, MT, NE, OK, and WY. She served as Principal at St. Daniel the Prophet, Chicago, Ill.; St. Patrick, Kansas City, Kan.; Immaculate Conception, Leavenworth; Sacred Heart, Topeka, Kan,, and St. Augustine, Kansas City, Mo. She served one year as bookkeeper at Xavier Elementary School, Leavenworth, and from 1985 to 2005 served faithfully as the Mother House Treasurer. Sister Mary Patricia received a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.S. in Elementary Administration from the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth. Survivors include brother, Edmund Walsh, Olathe, Kan., a niece and nephew, and her SCL Community. A vigil was held Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 2, in Ross Chapel. Interment followed in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds.
