closePeople will be able to go to Johnson County libraries later on Wednesdays starting next week and at some locations, even visit on Sundays as the library rolls back cuts it made last year.
In January 2012, hours of operation at Johnson County Library locations were cut because of budget constraints as well as the departure of 29 library staff members who opted for voluntary retirement incentives offered by Johnson County.
As a result, several libraries were closed on Sundays and all library locations closed at 5 p.m. Wednesdays.
“Rather than close a single library we took some hours from each library location,” said Marsha Bennett, library community relations coordinator.
But the library’s 2013 budget now has allowed 10 staff members to be hired and some of the previously cut hours to be reinstated.
Starting next week , alll the libraries will be open later on Wednesday evenings — until either 6 or 9 p.m. — and four libraries will offer Sunday hours.

The Olathe Public Library continues to operate with the schedule it adopted in May 2010, said Emily Baker, library director.
Before that, the main library opened at 9 a.m.
“Now the main library opens at 10 a.m., along with the Indian Creek branch,” Baker said.
