Marguerite Alice (Allison) Gaarder, 91, St. Joseph, Mo., died Feb. 7, 2013, at a local assisted-living facility. The daughter of Aaron and Alice Allison, Marguerite was born and raised on the family farm outside of Olathe, Kan. She married Gilbert W. Gaarder of Blythedale, Mo., on Feb. 23, 1946; he preceded her in death in 1993. Six of their children survive, Pat, St. Paul, Minn., Steve (Mary) Joplin, Mo., Susan (Jean Whisnant), Lakewood, Colo., David (Barbara O'Sullivan), Minneapolis, Minn., Nancy (Bob Reincke), Omaha, Neb., and John (Jeannette), Troy, Kan. A son and his wife, Bill and Carol, preceded her in death, as did her parents, a brother, Francis, and two sisters, Lois Hougland and Ruth Hughes. Other survivors include a sister, Pearl Thorp of Prairie Village, many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Gilbert and Marguerite lived many years in Shawnee, Kan., and St. Joseph. Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 10, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph. Services were Monday, Feb. 11, at Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church, St. Joseph. Interment Olathe Cemetery.
