Five Olathe basketball players were named to the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 2012 Academic All-State team.

Olathe Northwest had four of the local recipients, including three boys basketball players — Colton Anderson, Sam Power and Davis Reid.

Former Hawks honored for glovework

Two former Olathe East baseball players were named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball Golden Glove team.

Baker left fielder Josh Zach, a sophomore, and MidAmerica Nazarene center fielder Kyle Segraves were chosen as the best defenders at their respective positions.

Segraves, who helped the Pioneers claim a share of the Heart championship along with Avila, didn’t make an error in 94 chances and had four assists.

Olathe native among top college broadcasters

Zach Fisch, who graduated May 5 from St. Cloud (Minn.) State, was ranked No. 9 in the nation among college sportscasters by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America’s All-America listing.
