Olathe South's last-minute win against Wichita Heights in the Kansas 6A state championship game will be replayed twice by Fox Sports Kansas City and Fox Sports Midwest.

The first airing will be at 6:30 p.m. tonight. It can also be seen at noon on Dec. 13.

Balcom earns MIAA weekly award

Emporia State sophomore Kelsey Balcom was named the MIAA women's basketball player of the week Monday after averaging 19.5 points last week at the University of West Florida Thanksgiving Classic in Pensacola, Fla.

Balcom, a graduate of Olathe South, matched a career-high with 26 points on 10-for-14 shooting in the Hornets' come-from-behind 88-61 win against Alabama-Huntsville.

She made six of seven second-half shot to help Emporia rally from a four-point deficit behind a 57-point second half.

Balcom, who leads the Hornets in scoring, added 13 points and four assists in an 84-49 win against West Florida. She made four of six 3-pointers during the two games.

Wang wins Smith Award

Olathe Northwest senior Cassie Wang will be presented the Kenneth Smith Award today as the top girls golfer in metropolitan Kansas City.

The ceremony will take place at 3:15 p.m. at ONW.

Keese cleans up for St. Mary

Quarterback Mike Keese Jr. piloted the University of St. Mary to the best season in program history, setting a school record for passing yards en route to a 7-4 campaign.

Keese, who was selected first-team All-KCAC and was a three-time offensive player of the week in the league, helped the Spires to a 7-2 conference record and runner-up finish behind Ottawa.

He finished second in the NAIA in passing yards per game (330.7) and second in total offense (329.5).

Keese, who completed 303 of 533 passes for 3,638 yards with 21 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, also set a single-game record with 516 yards passing in a 51-10 against Bethel.

Hawks girls hoops announce clinic

The 2011 Lil' Hawks Basketball Clinic, which is sponsored and run by the Olathe East girls basketball team, is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. on Dec. 3 in the school's gymnasium.

Returning members of last season's 20-win squad, which finished third at the Kansas 6A state tournament, will provide instruction along with the Hawks coaching staff to girls in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The advance registration deadline is today and costs $25. The cost at the door will be $30, which includes an Olathe East Hawks T-shirt.
