The Watchdog | Loose Park certainly isn’t loos’ park
The problem
Kansas City’s Brian Casey wonders about the absence of portable toilets at Loose Park.
“As a concerned citizen, I ask why there is nowhere to answer nature’s call in this wonderful place,” Casey writes, admitting he has resorted to “improvisational methods to accommodate bodily needs.”
The answer
Steve Lampone of the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department says there are two sets of permanent restrooms in Loose Park.
The ones near the tennis courts, however, are not heated and are closed during winter.
But public restrooms are available year-round in the building by the playground on the north side of the park.
All restrooms were renovated a few years ago through a gift from the Ward Family Foundation.
Judy Penner, manager of the park’s garden center, said portable toilets were placed in the park during the busy season and they might return, depending on the park department’s budget.
The Watchdog says he always resorts to improvisational methods.
