BV North nips East boys in opener

Olathe East-Blue Valley North become one of the most fierce season-opening rivalries in Johnson County and it didn't disappoint Friday.

The host Mustangs got 18 points from Weston Ehlers and 14 from Sean McLarren in fending off the Hawks 52-51.

East led at the end of each of the first three quarters, pulling in front 16-10 in the opening period and leading 27-22 at halftime. The lead had been trimmed to 34-32 by the start of the final quarter.

Tyler Kalinoski and Bryce Schippers led the Hawks, 0-1, with 14 points, while Cody Gafford added 10.
