Gardner Edgerton took a little time to get rolling, but the Trailblazers advanced with ease Friday night, walloping Schlagle 49-0 in Kansas 5A regional action.

Quarterback Bubba Starling, a junior, scored the only touchdown in the first quarter on a 70-yard run.

Running backs Brett Jensen and Ryan Weber added short TD runs in the second quarter as the Trailblazers built a three-touchdown halftime lead.

Senior Justice Berry, who ran in a two-point conversion in the second quarter after the Stallions had earlier blocked at extra point, scored on a 10-yard run, while Starling lobbed a 24-yard TD to Alex Knorr as the lead reached 35-0 by the end of three quarters.

Starling, who finished with 163 yards on only carries, added TD runs of 5 and 18 yards in the fourth quarter.

Jensen carried 12 times for 111 yards.

Gardner Edgerton, which is the top 5A seed in eastern Kansas, hosts 6-4 Topeka-Seaman, a 53-34 winner Friday against Sumner Academy, in the sectional playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday.
