When the Olathe Northwest High School baseball team needed a big hit, he delivered.
When a young Ravens’ pitching staff required a steady catcher and an impeccable game-caller, he provided that, too.
If something needed to be said in the Northwest dugout, there’s a good chance he was the one to say it.
For his myriad contributions as a leader, catcher and batter, Ravens senior Harrison Lambert is the 2009 Olathe News Baseball Player of the Year.
A second-team all-state pick by the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches and a first-team All-Sunflower League selection, Lambert was a rock for Northwest, which qualified for state for the first time in school history.
The Ravens had a 15-8 record, and Lambert, who batted .397 with 25 runs driven in and 25 runs scored, was a big reason why. Entrusted with game-calling duties, he also groomed a pitching staff with little varsity experience.
He is bound for the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
Lambert and his fellow Northwest baseball graduates left a sturdy legacy at one of the state’s up-and-coming programs. ALL-OLATHE BASEBALL TEAM OF Kyle Adams, senior, Olathe Northwest
