ONW softball takes control of league race behind aces
The Olathe News staff
Olathe Northwest's offense struggle to get on track Tuesday in the first game of a split doubleheader against Shawnee Mission West at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
But the Ravens had little to fear with ace Hannah Dale limiting the Vikings to two hits while striking out 14.
It was merely a matter of time before ONW busted through, claiming a 10th-inning victory and then blasting Leavenworth 10-0 in six innings behind a Jacinda Ramos no-hitter in the nightcap.
Junior Kendra Wright led off the 10th versus SMW with a double and was sacrificed to third. With two outs, freshman Peyton Jones became the hero with an RBI single.
Jones stayed hot in the second game with two more hits and two RBIs, while Ramos, who benefitted from the Ravens' 18-hit parade, delivered three RBIs.
Junior Amy Pierce, who had two hits in the opener along with Chantelle Dietz, went 3-for-4 against the Pioneers.
ONW improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the Sunflower League. With SM North's loss against Olathe East and Olathe South's subsequent loss to SMN across town at the Olathe District Activity Center, the Ravens are the lone remaining unbeaten team in the league.
