SAN ANTONIO | Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel walked into the Alamodome on Friday afternoon as if he’d been here before.

And he had, along with MU football stars Chase Coffman, Martin Rucker and Lorenzo Williams.

On July 24, after the Tigers contingent had its say at the Big 12 Conference Media Days across town, Pinkel and his players hopped a cab. They wanted to see the spot where Saturday night, No. 1 Missouri will play No. 9 Oklahoma for the Big 12 championship.

“I remember them looking at me, saying `Coach, this is where we’ve gotta be.”

And Pinkel’s reply, in a perfect deadpan:

“Yes, it would be a good idea.”

So here they are again, after weeks of practice and an 11-1 season that has lifted the Tigers from unranked to top-ranked.

Twenty four hours from the biggest football game in Missouri history, one more victory away from a berth in the BCS National Championship Game Jan. 7 in New Orleans.
