ALL-STATE SOFTBALL

Capturing the Kansas 6A softball title, the first team championship in the school’s history, brought Olathe Northwest’s girls plenty of recognition this week when the Kansas Softball Coaches Association announced its all-state list.

Six Ravens were selected to the first team for 6A, while three players from Olathe East, which finished third at state, also were on the first team.

Aces Hannah Dale and Jacinda Ramos, who led ONW to a perfect 25-0 record, headlined the 6A list, along with teammates Amy Pierce, Kendra Wright, Chantelle Dietz and Kristi Lee.

Hawks seniors Jessica Brooks and Kendall Grimm made first team, along with junior Laura Vickers. Olathe South, which also qualified for state, had two players on the second team: catcher Katie Henning and freshman Alex Hugo.

CHEERLEADERS HONORED

Olathe North’s varsity and junior-varsity cheerleaders earned a bounty of team trophies during the Universal Cheerleaders Association camp at Kansas State University.

The Eagles varsity won first place for camp cheer performance and the JV and also earned second place for the home pom-pon, camp extreme routine and leadership.

North’s JV, meanwhile, took first for the camp extreme routine and home pom-pon, while nabbing a second-place trophy for the camp cheer performance. Both squads also won spirit awards.

Co-captain Chandler Freeman and dance captain Teresa Carter were selected All-America along with Shelbe Owens and Hannah Heidrick.

Tyana Sullivan and Morgan Twidwell were jump finalists, while Owens and Freeman received invites to become UCA staff members and scholarship offers to cheer at Wichita State University.
