East boys win Trailblazer Track Invitational

Olathe East's boys track and field team won the Trailblazer Invitational on Friday at Gardner Edgerton High School.

The Hawks edged Paola by two points for the victory and had three event champions.

Junior Ben Schmitz won the 800 meters in 1 minute and 59.3 seconds.

He also anchored the first-place 3200 relay, which included junior Cody Banks, sophomore Ryan Hocker and senior Cody Frazier.

Schmitz anchored the victorious 1600 relay as well. It included Frazier, senior Ryan Munyan and junior Mpoyo Mulongo.

East also had two runners-up and two third-place finishes.

Mulongo was second in the 400 and Hocker was second in the 3200.

Junior Michael Caughron placed third in the discus, while junior Nathan Schultze was third in the 300 hurdles.
