Johnson County Commissioner John Toplikar announced Wednesday he will seek re-election in November.
The 6th District commissioner's term ends Jan. 12, 2009.
Toplikar will seek re-election for the second time after winning his bid in 2004 for his first full term. He completed a two-year term after the 6th District was created in 2002.
He has yet to file with the Johnson County Election Office to run in the fall, but he has until the June 10 deadline.
A lifelong Olathe resident, Toplikar served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003. From 1989 to 1991, he was an at-large member of the Olathe City Council.
The 6th District covers west Olathe, Gardner, Edgerton, De Soto and nearly half of unincorporated county areas. His district also includes the townships of Olathe, Gardner, McCamish and Lexington.
The terms of 2nd District Commissioner John Segale and 3rd District Commissioner David Lindstrom also will expire in January. According to the election office, they have indicated their intentions to seek re-election.
Shawnee resident Jim Allen has filed to oppose Segale. So far, no one has filed to run against Lindstrom or Toplikar.
