Student faces possible charges for hugging social worker

A male student was released to his parents last week after a teacher said he had “inappropriately hugged” her at Chisholm Trail Junior High School.
Sgt. John Roland, a spokesman for the Olathe Police Department, said the school’s social worker told school officials that it happened during school hours.
Roland could not say why the hug was deemed inappropriate.
“That’s based on what the social worker gave us, we can’t go into detail as to why she found it inappropriate,” he said.
The school notified the police department, and a school resource officer on scene responded and took the initial report, Roland said.
The boy was not taken into police custody.
No other details were available from Olathe police or the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.
Olathe School District spokeswoman Ann Kohn said student disciplinary items cannot be released due to privacy issues.
“If it’s something against the student code of conduct, measures would be taken that could include time out of school,” she said.
