Rep. Mike Kiegerl, a Republican, recently announced his intention to seek re-election.

Elected in 2004, Kiegerl will pursue his third term representing the 43rd District, which comprises southwest Olathe, Gardner, Edgerton and Spring Hill.

He is the vice chair of the Commerce and Labor Committee and has served as the chair of the Joint Committee on Children's Issues. Kiegerl is also a member of the Health and Human Services and Financial Institutions Committees.

"Rep. Kiegerl has proven himself in a short time here," House Speaker Melvin Neufeld said in a statement. "He is a well-educated and intelligent voice for not only his district but the entire state.

We're lucky to have him as a member, and he belongs in the Kansas House of Representatives."

Born in Mannheim Germany, Kiegerl moved to the United States to attend college. He went to the University of Illinois for three years and later completed his undergraduate degree at Park University.

He earned a master's degree at the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Ariz.

Kiegerl and his wife, Marguerite, have two children and seven grandchildren. He is a retired adjunct professor at area colleges and universities, and he and his wife now operate a hospital-bill-auditing business called PRM, Inc., in Olathe.

Kiegerl will face opposition from Scott Snavely, a Spring Hill city councilmember.
